Many of our Amish craftsmen offer their furniture produced in what is known as rustic or character hardwoods. Rustic hardwoods include the knots, gum pockets, heart wood and sap wood that provide a unique, natural look to the furniture, while premium hardwoods are selected to eliminate these imperfections.
Many of the Amish Craftsmen that build our furniture use a woodworking technique that is called frame and panel.
With proper care the solid hardwood furniture you purchase from Whitacre’s will provide years of service and enjoyment. The Hardwood Manufactures Association has some tips on caring for your furniture.
Quarter Sawn White Oak has become a very popular wood used in producing today’s fine furniture. Because quarter sawn wood has the saw cuts across the growth ring, the grain is much straighter and has subtle wavy ribbon-like patterns.
Wood that comes from broadleaved trees are considered hardwoods. However, each species of hardwood has its unique physical properties including hardness. At Whitacre’s most of our furniture is made from Red Oak, ¼ Sawn White Oak, Hard Maple, Brown Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Hickory and Elm.
The furniture you purchase at our store is made by Amish craftsmen in Holmes and Wayne Counties in northeast Ohio.
The Whitacre Family has just received a semi truck load of quality Amish crafted furniture. Because many of the items are unfinished, customers can choose their furniture, select a stain and the staff at Whitacre’s will do the finishing. The time for finishing and delivery should be approximately 10 to 14 days.
